Domestic Abuse Support

Our Strength series of domestic abuse support interventions are strengths-based programmes for people who want help to manage conflict, coercive control or aggression.

TRAC Psychological Strength programmes are based on current research and clinical evidence to ensure they target empirically supported treatment need factors in a clinically responsive way. Drawing on dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT), cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT), mentalisation-based therapy (MBT) and solution-focused (brief) therapy (SFBT) techniques, these programmes help individuals to understand and manage their emotions more effectively, manage negative thoughts and rumination, enhance communication, and understand both themselves and others in terms of needs and vulnerabilities.

Working with the individual to promote their wellbeing in a holistic and multidisciplinary way, our programmes have been found to be effective in protecting children, reducing violence, controlling, threatening or coercive behaviour (Bates et al, 2018), and reoffending.

Inner Strength

Ground-breaking series of interventions for perpetrators of domestic abuse and violence. We can deliver these programmes on behalf of commissioners, for example, local authorities and police and crime commissioners. Individuals can also self-refer to the programme.

Inner Strength Complete

  • Sessions: 22 (daytime or evening)
  • Programme delivery: Zoom (one-to-one or in small groups)

Intervention programme for adults who use physically abusive behaviour currently, and/or have a history of using physical aggression in past relationships, and/or a history of aggression toward family members.

People who have used physical aggression towards their partners are known to find it difficult to understand their behaviour, the impact it has others, including their partner and children, and how to manage difficult emotions and experiences in a non-violent way.

Inner Strength Complete explores abusive behaviour from a psychological perspective to help the client understand how their own early experiences have contributed to their current behaviours and how these can impact their partners and children.

People who use abusive behaviour find that building skills to manage distress, problem solve, and reflect on their own and other people’s behaviour, not only reduces the likelihood of further aggression but also gives them the tools to reflect on what they want out of life and explore options for their future.

Inner Strength Complete is unique in its psychological focus and trauma-informed approach; that does not just focus on what happened but, more importantly, why it happened and what can be done to avoid this in the future.

Inner Strength Lite

  • Sessions: 14 (daytime or evening)
  • Programme delivery: Zoom (one-to-one or in small groups)

Intervention programme for adults who are currently, or have in the past, been coercive or verbally aggressive towards intimate partners.

People who have used coercive or verbally abusive behaviour often find that they are struggling to manage difficult emotions and conflict. Inner Strength Lite helps clients to understand their own learning history and how this impacts on their current adult relationships.

Ultimately, Inner Strength Lite helps people to understand and manage their behaviour better and provides the skills necessary to manage emotions, conflict, and to reflect on what they want out of life.

Unlike other programmes, Inner Strength Lite does not focus on what happened but instead why it happened and what skills are needed to help clients to manage relationships and stress in a non-coercive manner.

Inner Peace

Innovative suite of support interventions for people who have experienced domestic abuse and violence. We can deliver these programmes on behalf of commissioners, for example, local authorities and police and crime commissioners. Individuals can also self-refer to the programme.

Inner Peace

  • Programme delivery: Zoom (one-to-one or in small groups)

Intervention programme for adults who are currently, or have in the past, been in a domestically abusive relationship and have a history of previous unhealthy relationships and/or additional needs such a substance use or mental health.

People who have been subjected to abusive behaviour can find that they are struggling with difficult emotions, managing conflict, and making plans to enhance their lives.

Inner Peace helps people to manage distress, understand how their past experiences are influencing their life currently and how this impacts on those around them. They will learn skills to manage distress, problem solve, reflect on what they want out of life, and develop the tools to manage conflict and explore options for their future.

What does working with TRAC look like?

TRAC delivers programmes on behalf of commissioning organisations, such as local authorities and police and crime commissioners.

We have our own programme referral form which we will share with relevant individuals within your organisation to share with the wider team. We also provide an introductory session to explain about each of the programmes, this will then enable referrers to provide their clients with more information about the programmes prior to a referral being made.

Once a referral has been sent to us via email, it is triaged by the management team to determine which programme would be most appropriate for the client. The management team then contact the client with 14 days of receiving the referral, with the aim to book them onto the appropriate programme as soon as possible. We also keep referrers updated with their referrals’ status.
